The Beijing Institute of AI Safety and Governance (Beijing-AISI) is a new type of research and development institution dedicated to promoting the robust development and responsible application of artificial intelligence through research and practice in AI safety and governance. It is supervised by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology. Beijing-AISI is committed to building a systematic safety and governance framework to provide solid security assurance for AI innovation and application, and to lead new trends in AI safety and governance. The Institute strives to bridge cutting-edge research in AI safety and governance with industry self-regulation and self-governance, as well as government guidance and oversight. It also engages in strategic and forward-looking research on the long-term risks and safety of artificial intelligence, and actively participates in and contributes to national strategies and international academic and industrial cooperation and exchange in AI safety and governance.

Leveraging the rich academic resources and industrial strengths of Beijing and its domestic and international partners, the Institute has invited core research teams from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Beijing Normal University, Tsinghua University, and other relevant research institutions for in-depth collaboration. It has also established strategic partnerships with enterprises such as Zhongke Wenge, RealAI, Trusfort, Ascend Innovation, Smartcloud Testing, and Jingxi Zhigu. Through these collaborations, the Institute promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and cross-disciplinary innovation, continuously explores new research pathways, and addresses both potential and pressing issues in the fields of AI safety, ethics, and governance. Beijing-AISI is not only rooted in and serving Beijing, but also actively shares its explorations in AI safety and governance with provinces and cities across China for joint discussion and promotion. Together with relevant institutions nationwide, it advances China’s practice in AI safety and governance, amplifies China’s voice, and integrates into and contributes to the robust development of artificial intelligence globally.
